Course: Comparative and International Education

Code: EDTL 650

Semester: Fall 2003

Instructor: Dr. Edward Jensen

Reflection

This course taught me about the meaning and the importance of culture. Culture is based on the uniquely human capacity to classify experiences and is embedded in a person’s way of life. Understanding about cultures is necessary to be able to utilize and adjust to the essential cultures in order to solve problems and/or develop teaching and learning processes in the school setting.

I have learned a lot about educational system, problems, and other related issues of British System, alternative education, women issues, African Education, and education for Native Americans or other indigenous people. I have never thought of these topics before. These topics are worth to learn and understand. The reason is because, recently, most of the classroom settings in our system are multi-culture. To be a professional or accomplished teacher, I have to be able to find and understand the differences of each people, culture, or relationship in order to create the effective classroom for every child.
